Highest Service Hour Award
PCCW, the parent company of HKT, was awarded a merit prize in the “Highest Service Hour Award in 2010 (Private Organizations - Category 1)” by the Steering Committee on Promotion of Volunteer Service of the Social Welfare Department in December 2011 in recognition of our continuing contribution to the community through volunteer services.
PCCW and HKT have a large volunteer team of more than 2,000 members who are committed to helping the needy in the community through participating in volunteer activities. More and more colleagues are joining the team to support a wide range of volunteer services including elderly care, youth development, support to the underprivileged and environmental protection.
In addition to volunteer services, we help the community through community projects and sponsorship especially in areas related to our operations. For example, we donated 150 reformatted computers to NGOs and local schools last year and have acted as the sole sponsor of an IT summer camp for 10 years in a row, narrowing the “digital divide” in society.
Volunteer services at Christmas
The volunteer team brought love and care to children with autism and hospital patients at Christmas last year.
The team collaborated with Heep Hong Society, a charitable organization supporting children education and welfare, in celebrating Christmas with more than 50 children with autism and their parents on December 10, 2011. Through group activities, art classes and BBQ, more than 50 volunteers and their friends and family members spent a joyful day with the participants.
Furthermore, our volunteers visited 650 patients at Kwong Wah Hospital on December 17. After decorating the hospital for Christmas, our volunteers wore Santa Claus costumes and joined the choir to distribute gifts to the patients.
